Home Improvement Projects To Tackle In 2022

Lose a few pounds, hit the gym more than once a month, eat more kale – these are typical goals set on January 1st and while they are good resolutions to take into a new year, why not try something different and pick one that focuses on the comfort and appeal of your home? Not only will you benefit from updates and added features, it’s entirely possible your curb appeal will increase and your property’s resale value will benefit! With that in mind, let’s take a look at two popular home improvement projects we recommend tackling in 2022.

Kitchen Remodel

According to Merriam-Webster, a kitchen is a place (such as a room) with cooking facilities. We think you’ll agree that the kitchen is way more than that. It’s a place where family and friends gather together to eat, yes, but also to make memories. Perhaps Andrew Zimmern said it best when he said, “Everything happens in the kitchen. Life happens in the kitchen.” If that’s true for you (or you want it to be) but your current set up makes this a bit of challenge why not change it up with a kitchen remodel?

In an effort to create a more multifunctional space, Better Homes & Gardens suggests flexible lighting. That is the ability change light level, temperature, and even intensity. In the same article on their website, they also listed these 2022 kitchen remodeling trends:

  • Walk-in pantries

  • Sink workstations

  • Rounded accents (i.e., arched windows and doorways, scalloped backsplashes, and circular rugs)

  • Modern wood finishes

  • Smart kitchen appliances

To add our two cents, we urge homeowners to think beyond the next couple of years. Are you planning on living out your days in this home? If so, consider remodeling your kitchen with aging in place in mind.

Bathroom Remodeling

The bathroom is one of the most frequently used rooms in any home and rightfully so. Although it’s in the business of number one and number two, it deserves a makeover now and again. With that in mind, here are a few 2022-bathroom trends curated by Southern Living:

  • Double showers with rain heads, hand-held features, and multiple faucets

  • Bold color choices

  • Incorporate more organic materials such as marble and stone

  • Add technology that you can control from your phone or tablet

  • Swap out your mildew-prone shower storage for a teak bench

Other home improvement sites suggest adding plants to your bathroom, ditching shiplap and all-white everything, installing a corner tub, and creating the illusion of more space with a new window.

Of course, these suggestions may not be what you had in mind and that’s okay too. It’s your bathroom, create the space that you’ll enjoy. And don’t forget to think about taller toilets and showers that can fit a medical chair if necessary. Yes, we’re sticklers for adding safety and aging in place elements.
